The Freedom To Speak Up (FTSU) team works to support staff to raise concerns. The team also work to support the organisation in becoming open and transparent in speaking up matters, where all staff are actively encouraged and enabled to speak up safely.

Our role is designed to contribute to creating a culture of openness throughout the organisation, to ensure that our speaking up processes are effective and continuously improved and to ensure all staff are supported appropriately when they speak up or support other people who are speaking up.

We also have a key role in helping to raise the profile of raising concerns in this organisation, and provide confidential advice and support to staff in relation to concerns they have about patient safety and how their concern has been handled.

FTSU guardians do not get involved in investigations or complaints, but we help facilitate the raising concerns process where needed, ensuring that our policies are followed correctly.

All conversations you have with us are completely confidential. Nothing is shared without your consent, as having a safe, trusted and confidential space to raise concerns is key to the Freedom To Speak Up role.

The freedom to speak up team are supported by the National Guardians Office who set guidance for guardians to embed in the NHS  https://nationalguardian.org.uk/search/
